Lennar Corp., the second-largest home builder in the U.S., became the first to offer homes with seamless wireless technology certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance this year. The new Wi-Fi Certified Home Design standard integrates pre-installed wireless technology into the structure of the house to provide coverage in every room with no dead spots, and amplifies wireless coverage compared with a traditional router. The standard is being incorporated into Lennar’s Everything’s Included package, which offers buyers upgraded features at no extra cost. For a Wi-Fi Certified home, each floor plan goes through a testing process that maps signal strength and quality to determine where to place access points, which are built into the home during construction. The process takes into account the best kinds of enclosures for routers and the building materials and other factors that can affect connectivity.
