The organization is repurposing former parking lots in urban areas into a social community project that offers much-needed affordable housing for the public workforce, with a focus on teachers.

The group arranges complex public and private financing, including $117 million in New Markets Tax Credits. These credits were designed to increase the flow of capital to businesses and low-income communities by providing a modest tax incentive to private investors. RBH has projects under construction in Hartford, Conn., and in the planning stages in Chicago; Miami; Baltimore; Atlanta; and Boston. RBH says it hopes to help cities attract and retain talented teachers by giving them a comfortable, affordable housing option.
