China’s Weak Building Codes Lead to Disaster
Two people died after a residential building collapsed in China’s Guizhou province, on June 14.
While the cause of the accident is still under investigation, local building experts speculated that it was due to substandard construction work on the foundation. Ironically, the building collapse was the second in the city in one week. A seven-story structure collapsed a few days before, caused by the building’s irregular construction. Four additional stories were built on a structure that was approved for only three, reports Asia One.
