Ceiling of Charlotte Apartments Caves In

The ceiling of an apartment complex near the University of North Carolina Charlotte partially collapsed in February during a party with more than 80 people.

The cave-in at the Circle University City apartment complex owned by Charlotte-based Crescent Communities occurred during a late-night party that caused damage to the floor of a fourth-floor unit, according to the Niner Times web site. No injuries were reported but the tenants of the affected units had to move out during repairs.

Residents said it was poor construction–not overcrowding–that caused the problem at the newly opened complex.

“They really had to throw this place up since they were already behind on building,” one told the Niner Times. “I mean, I literally had to stay in a hotel the first few weeks of class first semester because they weren’t ready for us to move in yet.”
