Not every starter-home buyer wants a two-story home. These single-level layouts are easier to get around, while still boasting narrow-lot-friendly dimensions.

Privacy for the Master Suite

The split-bedroom layout gives lots of privacy to the master suite in this well-planned design. In the center of the home, the totally open living room, dining room, and kitchen create a spacious gathering zone, with room at the kitchen’s island to hang out. Double doors link this area to the back deck on one side and a side patio on the other. Also opening to the deck, the master suite gives owners a spacious bedroom, two sinks, a separate tub and shower, and a walk-in closet. Two secondary bedrooms share a hall bath. Other highlights of the plan include the mudroom/laundry area on the way in from the garage and attractive Craftsman-inspired details on the exterior. Inspired by French country style, this 2,000-square-foot home is packed with modern amenities. The open layout gives a “wow” moment upon approach from the foyer into the great room, where a raised ceiling, gas fireplace, and views to the rear create a welcoming atmosphere. The spacious kitchen opens to the great room and breakfast nook, creating an inviting place to cook and entertain at the snack-bar island. Tucked away out of sight, the master suite offers a relaxing retreat with a large walk-in closet, separate sinks, a jet tub and separate shower, linen storage, and an enclosed water closet. This plan also offers a bonus room above the garage that could make a future fourth bedroom or a playroom for the kids. Don’t miss the large utility room, which includes a sink and freezer space.
