Charles Prowell was destined to work with wood. His father built custom homes, his mother was an artist, his grandfather designed furniture, and his uncle was an architect. Prowell followed in their footsteps by founding Charles Prowell Woodworks, which crafts Western cedar and Southern cypress gates and arbors.
The arbors use extensions that fit over gate posts, walls, or columns and can stretch from 4 to 10 feet wide, depending on the type of gate. Designs can incorporate Plexiglass, regular glass, stained glass, or beveled glass. Other product offerings include lighting columns and pergolas. A pavilion design is in the works, and all products include assembly instructions.
For custom projects, Prowell says customers send pictures of the part of the property where the product will be installed. Then his company tries to make the gate look like it was built at the same time as the house. Prowell also builds gates and arbors that meet specified measurements, and he will work with drawings.
