More Than a Castle

1 MIN READ

People are beginning to wise up about their home sites. They seem to have figured out that all of that expensive dirt surrounding their houses can function as more than just a buffer from the neighbors; it can actually add pleasure to their homes. Today, homeowners are investing as much time, effort, and money into creating outdoor spaces as they do on indoor rooms. The U.S. Census Bureau reports that in 2003 Americans spent more than $17 billion upgrading their outdoor spaces. While patios, decks, and porches are becoming standard features of new homes, buyers are notching them up with added functions and conveniences. Outdoor kitchens and dining areas complete with professional-quality appliances and mood lighting have replaced the hibachi on the deck. Spas, pools, and fountains add opportunities for recreation and relaxation. Outdoor fireplaces, sound systems, and even outdoor media areas let the terrace vie with the family room as the place to gather. Today, homeowners want a home to be more than just their castle; they want it to be their own private luxury resort.
