Reclaimed Planter Boxes by Custom by Rushton

Paper-thin cedar growth rings tell Randy Rushton the rescued fence rails that he works into custom planter boxes are nearly 1,000 years old. “I’m getting these 60-year-old fences and the wood is unbelievable,” he says. “You can’t find it anywhere else.”

The old thick pickets and rails build sturdy garden boxes, and scrap angle iron adds architectural appeal to the raised metal-framed model. Rushton, who also is a building contractor, can add benches, screening, and skirts, or even reuse the original fence nails for a rustic industrial aesthetic.
