Stone Forest’s hand-carved, high-end bath and kitchen products—including onyx tubs and marble sinks—are a familiar sight to CUSTOM HOME readers. But the Santa Fe, N.M.-based fabricator actually started out in the garden and landscaping space and remains true to its roots by custom-designing natural outdoor products. “We’ve been making garden products from the get-go,” says owner Michael Zimber. “It’s a line that’s dear to our hearts.”
Water walls, fountains, and benches have been especially popular. “We’ve done a lot of custom fountain work using millstones,” Zimber says. “We’ve also used really massive [stone] pieces to create seating with an organic feel.”
One of his favorite projects was for One Arts Plaza, a multi-use structure in Dallas. Huge columns of basalt, some polished and some left with a natural finish, suspend a few inches above the water of the fountain beneath to imitate the look of fallen logs.
