Using a combination of hand-built and wheel-thrown techniques, Bonita Goodberg crafts uniquely designed ceramic lavatory sinks that incorporate richly layered hand-applied and airbrushed glazes. “We work closely with the client on these projects. Bonita Ceramics can accommodate most requests for special design elements and color coordination,” says Goodberg. Straight, notched, softly flared, and undulating rims are hallmarks of Goodberg’s sculptural sink designs, as are interior elements such as leaf and fossil impressions and raised vines. Sink colors can be custom coordinated to match any sample of tile, flooring, paint, or wallpaper. Clients receive a fired color tile for approval before a custom sink is built. “In addition to our large library of beautiful underglaze colors, we specialize in the application of exotic metallic and opalescent overglazes that highlight the detail of our hand-imprinted leaf and animal images,” Goodberg says. The sinks are made from a dense, fine-bodied white clay that becomes resistant to chipping and cracking once hard bisque fired to more than 1,150 degrees F. Each sink is signed by Goodberg.
