One of the nation’s most recognizable window companies, Andersen Windows and Doors, has received Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain-of-custody certification for its Andersen and Renewal by Andersen brands of wood and wood-composite windows and doors, the company says.
FSC, a Bonn, Germany-based nonprofit organization established to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests, awards chain-of-custody certification to companies that meet its standards for traceability in their wood supply chain. Essentially a tracking system, the certification simply lets entities prove that their timber was harvested from responsibly managed forests.
The certification also means that builders, architects, and developers using Andersen’s FSC-certified products can earn Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) points from the U.S. Green Building Council.
Though the Bayport, Minn.-based company isn’t the only window manufacturer to have FSC certification, it is, perhaps, the nation’s most recognizable national window brand and perhaps the largest to do so.
“Andersen approaches sustainability at every level and for us it begins in the forests where we source the wood for our products,” J. Glasnapp, Andersen’s vice president of corporate sustainability and quality, said in a release announcing the certification.
“We are committed to environmental stewardship and our FSC Chain-of-Custody certification supports this philosophy and assures our customers that their purchase supports the highest forestry standards,” Glasnapp added.
