Less than a year after the introduction of Panasonic Eco Solutions of North America and Pika Energy’s Harbor Smart Battery portfolio, the co-developers have upgraded their existing solar battery with two new products, the Harbor Plus and entry-level Harbor Flex.
The Harbor Plus Smart Battery can store up to 17.1 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of power, with a real power output of 10 kilowatts (kW). According to the manufacturer, the battery delivers up to 21% more energy and 30% more peak power than leading competitors. It is powered by six Panasonic Lithium-ion battery modules, which are connected in series for redundancy.
“The solar industry faces the reality of certain maximum energy density, pushing the market to deliver innovative and disruptive solar solutions to a quickly growing consumer base,” says Dan Silver, vice president, Panasonic Eco Solutions North America. “We are excited to once again partner with Pika Energy to deliver an industry-leading solution in the Harbor Plus Smart Battery, outpacing competitors to expand solar power capacity and capability, ultimately providing customers with freedom from grid dependence.”
When paired with the Pika Energy Island, a single-inverter device for both grid-tied and off-grid energy storage, the Harbor Plus Smart Battery offers a self-supply mode, which maximizes self-consumption of stored energy; zero-export mode, which prevents solar energy transference to the local grid; Time-of-Use capability, which allows homeowners to comply with local time-of-use rate policies; priority-backup mode, which charges the battery from the grid in case of emergency; clean-backup mode, which stores solar energy for unexpected grid outages; and dark-start capability, which allows batteries to restart using only solar power.
“With this energy capacity upgrade, the Harbor Smart Battery is now firmly cemented as the industry’s performance leader,” says Kristen Helsel, vice president, Sales and Marketing, Pika Energy. “No other residential smart battery solution can match the power, efficiency and capability that Pika and Panasonic offer with the Harbor Plus Smart Battery, and the Pika Energy Island platform.” panasonic.com pika-energy.com
