Vivint Smart Home is expanding home security to the entire neighborhood with Streety, a free app that connects homeowners’ security cameras and allows residents to share video footage with each other.
By linking individual cameras through the app, homeowners can send and view both recorded and live footage from outdoor or doorbell cameras at other homes, keeping a closer eye on kids while they’re outside playing, cars and property while a neighbor is on vacation, or instances like break-ins or stolen packages.
The app allows users to post messages and ask questions of each other, or send a request for video footage from another camera. Once the camera owner approves the request, Streety automatically generates the recorded video clip that they can share with each other and with the police in the event of a crime.
Streety limits neighborhood boundaries to a 300-yard radius and uses third-party verification services to match identities and addresses for new users, ensuring that shared video footage only comes from nearby neighbors. The app is available to anyone, not just Vivint customers. Neighbors with non-Vivint cameras can also upload and share video clips with their Streety network.
