Hurricane-Ready Shutters

1 MIN READ

The Architectural collection from Atlantic Premium Shutters, a division of the Tapco Group, delivers fully functional shutters with attention to historical correctness in a wide range of architectural styles. Homeowners in hurricane zones can opt for the company’s storm-rated shutters, which meet the Large Missile Impact Test requirement as specified in the IRC and IBC 2006.

The storm-rated option features an inside-locking system with two U-shaped storm bars that lock from the interior when the shutters are closed. In addition, a 1/8-inch-thick clear polycarbonate panel fastened to the back of each shutter protects the shutter leaf, the window, and the home’s interior. When in the open position, the polycarbonate backing remains hidden from view.

Constructed from hand-cut, hand-assembled composite wood, along with a combination of structural grade PVC for the rails, shutters in the Architectural Collection are backed by a limited lifetime structural and finish warranty. Able to match almost any color, the company uses a proprietary oven-curing process that turns two coats of low-VOC industrial-grade paint into a permanently bonded, hardened shell. Completing the package is the collection’s period-inspired hardware, forged from 304 series stainless steel with a matte black, powder finish coat.
