The Orange County Register’s Jon Lansner reports that all 64 of the units in KB Home’s Ironwood community in North Irvine will included roofs sporting smog-eating tiles. You read right. Lansner reports, “when exposed to sunlight, a photo catalyst on the tile surface speeds up oxidation, gobbling up nitrogen oxide in the air and keeping the chemical from forming smog. According to Monair, a 2,000-square-foot roof can gobble up enough pollutants in a year to eliminate all the smog produced from 10,800 miles of driving.” Can’t help but hum, “When I come home feelin’ tired and beat, I go up where the air is fresh and sweet (up on the roof).”
