Banister Homes not only builds green homes, but it also works on projects that need to fit a historic aesthetic. So, the products the company uses need to meet environmental criteria while also having the look clients desire.
Windows from Jeld-Wen’s Premium Wood Siteline collection and Windsor Windows & Doors’ Pinnacle line do just that, says Kathy Spence, director of sustainability for Banister. “The U-factor and solar heat gain coefficient are great on both of those,” she says. “The grilles are built so the home is going to maintain a historic look.”
Nichiha’s fiber cement siding also performs both tasks, Spence notes. It contains 50 percent fly ash , and the product also has a thicker reveal, so it matches with the shadowlines of traditional wood siding.
Kohler’s WaterSense faucets, dual and pressure flush toilets, and other water-efficient plumbing fixtures help bring good looks and sustainability to a home’s interior, Spence says: “You can get any look you want and still have eco-friendly features.”
