Some, including Newmat stretch ceiling systems, lend themselves to residential applications. “The Newmat ceiling has light fixtures behind the material, so it lights up the ceiling monolithically,” Hinerfeld says. Another commercial-residential crossover he likes is Seaman’s FiberTite roofing membrane system, which he calls “one of the best, most durable roofing materials I’ve ever used.”
Panelite translucent wall panels and GrailCoat waterproof cement coatings also make Hinerfeld’s list of go-to products. “GrailCoat is a cement with acrylic polymers that can be applied over a wood substrate,” he explains. He used it on a house designed by Johnston Marklee & Associates more than four years ago (above), and says that “it looks great, lasts a long time, and so far, there are no cracks.”
