Alan Banks
Evans Coghill Homes, Charlotte, N.C. Rain and humidity can be a big problem in North Carolina, where custom builder Alan Banks does all of his building. Over the years he has experienced moisture problems with standard OSB, but he eventually found a product that has proven itself to the company in subflooring applications. Weyerhaeuser’s Structurwood Edge Gold flooring panels use a proprietary wood-resin combination that resists edge swelling from moisture and rain. The manufacturer says the panels require virtually no edge or joint sanding, even after exposure to rain.
“Its advantage is that it holds very well without delaminating during the build process,” Banks says. “It can get wet and dries out without swelling—a big problem with plain OSB.” Each panel is also engineered to stay flat during installation, the manufacturer says.
