IQGlas from Glass Consult uses state-of-the-art technology to provide radiant heat for homes, pool houses, sunrooms, and more. The heated, tempered security glass system can be used in doors and windows and because it is structural grade, can also be used to glaze fixed floor-to-ceiling windows.
Two panes of tempered security glass and a programmable electronic thermostat make up the system. Electrical connections, concealed within the window frames, heat the glass to the set temperature, detected by a sensor in the glass. Once the temperature is reached, the heat is automatically cut off. When the surface of the glass drops below the set temperature, the sensor sends pulses of electricity back to the glass to bump the heat back up to the setting.
A metal oxide coating on the inner pane provides electrical resistance so the heat is dispersed evenly. The outer pane’s interior side is coated to radiate the heat toward the room and keep cold air outside. Super-insulating gas between the panes provides thermal insulation. Optional features include blinds between the glass, anti-theft and alarm systems, soundproofing, and sun-blocking. IQGlas can also be made so that at the flip of a switch, an electric charge will turn the glass opaque.
