The 2017 Product Guide

The world is constantly innovating - and so are we. We introduce our inaugural products issue with 94 products encompassing lifestyle, building envelope, comfort, finishes, and water categories.

Carefully chosen building products are the key to well-constructed, beautiful homes. The right ones install easily, perform effortlessly, add design panache, or save time and money. The best do all of the above. BUILDER editors have spent months scouting for new products that meet these criteria.

As Frank Anton, Hanley Wood vice chairman emeritus, notes in his column for April, many building product manufacturers are striving to make their products better. It’s not that last-generation models don’t work, but as technologies evolve and efficiencies are fine-tuned, manufacturers are able to—and often do—improve their offerings. Anton’s advice? “If it’s not broken, fix it anyway.”

What follows is a sampling of some of our current favorite products designed to help builders save a buck, build sustainably, or simply look smart: ductless HVAC systems, toilets with in-wall flushing technology, carpet with built-in stain protection, a low-profile roof-integrated solar system, and appliances that wirelessly connect with smart home devices, just to name a few.
