In celebration of iconic architect Zaha Hadid’s legacy, London’s David Gill Gallery has opened “UltraStellar.” The exhibit is named for the final furniture collection the late architect created for Gill, who was a long-term gallerist and friend of Hadid’s before she suffered a fatal heart attack earlier this year.
This month, the gallery will showcase eight pieces from Hadid’s UltraStellar collection. The new creations are notable for their mid-century inspired walnut and leather composition in lieu of clear acrylic—Hadid’s medium of choice.

While the materials are new, the intertwined, organic designs are signature Zaha. The collection’s walnut coffee table is made up of four, curvaceous parts. Each piece features a deep ripple in its center that is meant to contrast the sturdiness of the wood with ideals of lightness, according creative director Patrik Schumacher in a conversation with Designboom.

Other pieces in the collection include a large dining room table with two protruding, twisted legs that support an oval-shaped top fitted with a glass “eye”.

Its wood dining chairs, with colorful leather upholstery, feature arched armrests and sleek tapered legs. In an adaptation of that style, a love seat fashioned out of similarly twisted armrests allows up to four people to sit together.

Also on display are three additions to the 2012 and 2015 “Liquid Glacial” collection, including a coffee table called “Luna”. Presented in the firm’s signature, hand-polished acrylic, Luna is based on a similar design Hadid originally released in marble back in 2014. The expanded collection also includes a winged chandelier—which has been touted as the line’s centerpiece—in metal and crystal, and will be revealed for the first time since Hadid previewed a prototype two years ago. An undulating fruit bowl in sterling silver completes the collection.
“UltraSteller” runs through October 29.
